Who doesn't love a parade? The fanfare, the bands, the floats, the fun - all on display and on the march on High Street to celebrate the end of a fanatasic week of events of Yankee Homecoming! So pick your spot, sit back (or stand up) and enjoy the spectacle that is the YH2010 parade. Bring your friends and neighbors to join in the celebration and see if you can predict the winner of best float.
The Newburyport Fire Department and the Yankee Homecoming Parade committee have assigned an area of the Parade route that will be noise reduced. Newburyport Fire Chief Steve Cutter and the Parade committee have designated a section of High Street between Fruit Street and Lime Street where the fire engines will significantly reduce or stop the sirens to help people who are concerned with the loud sounds of the horns and sirens.
There is a parade volunteer meeting for people carrying banners, division captains and group leaders for the Jimmy Fund this Friday at 7pm at the intersection of three roads near Famous Pizza. This meeting should run for about 30 minutes.
The following groups should check in at the old Ming Jade parking lot next to Papa Gino’s on Storey Avenue on Sunday for the parade:
Bands - please sign in by 11:00am where you will get your placement on Ferry Rd
Floats - please have someone from your group sign in and have your float in the Market Basket Plaza before 10:30am. Judging will start around 11:00am
Other groups - please sign in by 11:00am where you will get your placement on Mosley Avenue
The parade is expecting several United States and Massachusetts elected officials and candidates to march in this the parade. They will be handing out pamphlets about their campaign. Come and get some information on all of the people that will be running for offices in September and November.
